do we need an album to be a band in singapore?

no.

why can we not release mp3 singles?

we can.

where is the money?

there is none. but if you split songwriting among all band members, and sell an average of 500 copies per album (thats overestimating really) then you'll have to make 1,000 albums to make enough to buy a decent flat. (yes this is excluding the all important factor we call time, but it still drives home the point).

that said, there is more to be made from endorsements, high profile gigs and related things (appearances, acting, hosting gigs).

still need the songs to keep coming.

but in essence, in singapore music is not the product. the people are.

it was saturday morning and i sat and stared at the glitter in her lip's balm, like shoals of fish at the surface of the ocean, hiding treasures in the depths of the sea. must be from watching poseidon last week. this lady seemed unfazed by the mention of a slipped disc. even my physio raised an eyebrow at that.

okay it was an acupuncture weight loss centre but i was there for my back. and just like weight loss centres, this technique seemed to fail miserably. the added pressure to the most strained points left my back more sore than usual. back to the physio next week.

later that day, more pain to come. had to settle for a different outlet so hani was out of the question. hani's not as good as veronica, but she's nice and gentle enough. this lady though, is the devil. she said she had a 2.30 slot and a 4, so i said 4 but i thought that was too late. so i called back and asked for 2.30 and she said thats too tight, so i effectively said you offered it to me 2 mins ago and she ok fine like a 14 year old who was stamping her feet.

i got there and shes preggers, about 30 with a ghetto look. she says hurry dear and i do but she gives me about 0.2 seconds to change. the wax was hot, hotter than veron's and hotter than hani's so i say mm, i think its a bit hot, and she responds with a demure laugh. the next spread of wax is just as hot, or rather even more so because shes waxing the same spots over and over and over again.

sigh.

i met pipe today. yes, i did cause hes back for a bit. i said what about investing in an ice cream parlour and he said they dont make money. you dont make money from ice cream unless your haagen or bnj. you just dont make money.

and i thought about all the independent shops and all the people who run them, the teacher from udders, tom from toms palette, the couple from ice3 and all the rest and i felt glad. i felt glad that good ice cream means more to them than great riches, because if everyone was like pipe the world would be a rather dull place.

im fucking upset about yeah yeah yeahs. really. i must do better. and i will.

just watched spread and i must say, though its far from a winner, its better than what youd expect. it spells the most basic lesson in the book. you play with fire, you get burned. i love the ending. its the first unhappy ending ive seen in a long while. get this, the last scene features a frog eating a mouse. its a quick, painful, real closing. i love it. and ashton kutcher? gorgeous. if only he had the onscreen chemistry to boot...

pipes packing up his office for korea. he told me he was going but he didnt say when. i said i didnt care but now i feel sad.

really, even after the end he is my respite and i his friend. now i'll have but reality and ice cream and korea in my phone.
